THE WORRY BIRDS
'It's not always unicorns, penguins and piranhas
It's not always tigga-boom, tigga-boom, tigga-pow!
Some days are different, some days are tough
Some days are brutal, like this day, right now!'
Stories of Mental Health, Wellbeing and Kindness
Coping with Fears and Childhood Anxiety
With an interactive, exploratory workshop, devising strategies for dealing with the days when times are tough
As adults, we all suffer from anxiety to varying degrees and learn to cope with it, or not, as the case may be. But for children it can be a very distressing and frightening experience.
Childhood anxiety can result in disruptive behaviour, temper tantrums, stomach upsets, poor performance at school, selective mutism, withdrawal from group activities, self isolation and depression.
The Worry Birds is a set of 3 stories:
The Tale Of Twig
Identifying anxiety as a natural fear.
The Peculiar Mushroom
Looking at the role of kindness in understanding and helping those around us.
The Worry Birds
This is Ruby's story, illustrating the experience and effects of anxiety, particularly when there is no discernible 'trigger'.
Her story is deliberately incomplete.
The programme is designed for Years 3-6 and the stories are performed to 2 classes, with a group examination of the issues throughout.
This is followed by a separate creative and interactive workshop for each class, devising strategies for dealing with anxiety and positive endings to Ruby's story.
